#HackBostonStrong - Give Back for Boston is a 26.2 hour hackathon held in honor of the 118th Boston Marathon, show support for the 36,000 runners and pay tribute to all those affected by the tragic events of last year's marathon. We're inviting teams to join us at Intrepid Pursuits to do what we do best, create brilliant mobile experiences! 

Armed with years of Boston Marathon running data, we're calling all designers, developers and tech-minded folks to produce the best marathon-related tool. Or, if running's not your jam, you could honor Boston by creating a more general product or prototype that benefits Boston and its citizens as a whole. 

On Friday, April 18th, the hackathon will kick-off with some networking and drinks at 4pm before an introduction and team formation at 6pm. From there, teams (of up to 4) will have 24 hours to hack before presenting to the judges at Saturday 4pm. The first place team will walk away with $2,000 dollars with more cash prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place teams. We’ll proudly be making a $1,000 donation to the One Fund. 

We'll keep you fed and hydrated with meals and snacks throughout the event. Plan to bring your toothbrush and laptop for all-night productivity!

  • End Time: Presentations begin at 4pm. Judging will conclude at 6:12pm.

Eligibility

Participants are at least 18 years of age. 

Participants are in teams of no greater than four (4), any person can only be a member of one (1) team and, if participating as part of a team, cannot participate as an individual. Once a team has been registered, its members cannot be changed or substituted. 

The majority of your project must be developed during the Hackathon.

Judging Criteria

  • Innovation
    Does the project solve a real problem in a new or creative way? Does the project innovate in the area of design, user interaction, or technical solutions?
  • Design
    Is the product easy to use? Is data presented in a meaningful way? Is the product beautiful?
  • Impact
    Is this project the start of something bigger? How many people could be affected by the project? What was the judges’ initial impression / gut reaction to the project?
  • Execution
    How much of the project was the team able to complete in the time of the hackathon? Does the project accomplish its stated goal? How well was the idea presented?
